WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior Therese Kelley scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help Army edge Colgate 59-55 in the Black Knights’ first Patriot League game of the season.

Freshman Katie Macfarlane scored all of her 11 points in the second half, including a 7-of-8 effort from the charity stripe.  Megan Dempsey chipped in 10 points for the Black Knights and managed five steals in the contest.

Guard combination Frances Boone and Sarah Parks led Colgate with 12 points apiece.  Boone shot 5-8 in the game and stole the ball three times.  Parks went 6-of-6 at the line and ripped down six boards for the Red Raiders.

Colgate gave top-seeded Army a scare this afternoon as the Red Raiders posted a six-point lead in the first five minutes of the half.  Senior Laura Rohrbacher found the bottom of the net to give Colgate its biggest lead, 24-12, at 4:48.  The Red Raiders maintained their scoring edge the rest of the first half and headed into the locker room with a 27-24 advantage over Army.

Army tied the game for the first time, 31-31, four minutes into the second half on a bucket by Kelley.  Colgate regained the lead, but the Black Knights were resilient and went ahead by one, 35-34, at the 13:39 mark.  The two teams battled through two ties and three lead changes before Army evened the score, 53-53, on a pair of free throws by Macfarlane at 2:48.  Macfarlane then nailed a jumper to give her team the lead for good at 2:07.  Alison Hanson sank two from the line with :14 remaining to bring Colgate within three, 58-55, but two seconds later Dempsey answered with a made free throw for Army.

Army improves their record to 13-2 on the season and rises to 1-0  in the Patriot League.  Colgate loses its ninth road decision and ninth consecutive contest, falling to 2-11 overall and 0-2 in the league.
