    INTRODUCTION


    COURSE DESCRIPTIONS 

    AEROBICS - 01 Aerobic classes consist of aerobic, step and/or body toning work outs. The class objective is to increase one's cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, muscular endurance through aerobic exercise. 

    AIKIDO - 02 This course introduces students to a Japanese art of self-defense which emphasizes relaxation and mental energy over muscular strength. Students learn basic defensive maneuvers, mind-body coordination, elements of wooden weaponry, safe falling techniques, and applications to everyday life. 

    AMERICAN RED CROSS-CERTIFICATION COURSES (Lifeguarding Today) (Book(s), Course & Certification Card Fee) Lifeguarding Today - 06 (Full Semester) The Lifeguarding Today course includes training in CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED and First Aid and Safety, as well as the lifeguarding skills for both the pool and the waterfront. A pretest (500 yards swimming showing two strokes and retrieving a 10 lb. weight and carrying it 25 yards in a timed format) will qualify participants for the class. Upon completion, the participant will have a three year certification in Lifeguarding for pools and waterfront and First Aid Certification, as well as a one year certification of CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED. A Fee of $50 will be charged for all three certifications.

    BOWLING - 07 Instruction includes the proper stance, follow through, and footwork along with scoring and etiquette. 

    DANCE BALLET (Beginning) - 11A An introductory study of ballet and its basic dance elements. Exercises are designed to develop awareness and understanding of body alignments phrasing and musicality. Simple combinations are performed at the barre, the center and across the studio space. Students with little or no knowledge of ballet should register for this class. 

    BALLET (Intermediate/Advanced) - 11B Designed for the intermediate dance student to develop skill in ballet technique. Exercises are performed at the barre, center, and across the studio space to enhance physical skill and performance qualities. 

    GOLF - 18 This class covers the fundamentals of golf; grip, alignment, set-up and posture along with the short game, rules, etiquette and course management. Individual instruction from our Class A-PGA Professional will be offered to each student based on existing skill level. @ 7 Oaks 

    FUNCTIONAL FITNESS TRAINING:  The purpose of this course is to expose the student to the physical and emotional benefits of functional fitness training. The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the student who has had little to no prior strength training experiences. Areas to be explored are aerobic fitness, flexibility, strength and functional training, nutrition, and walking for life.

    NIGHT CLUB DANCING - 16 The characteristic rhythms of Salsa, Swing, Hustle, Nightclub Two-Step, Samba and Argentine Tango create an exciting foundation where a diversity of cultures intermingle on the dance floor. Studying the correct technique enables one to achieve maximum joy of movement and body expression. The patterns internalized in this course will give you the confidence to dance throughout the world. No partner required.

    RACQUETBALL - 23 This course teaches proper grip, skills, rules and scoring for the beginner and more advanced skill work for the experienced player. 

    RELAXATION AND WELLNESS - 25 This course will examine issues concerning holistic health and stress management. Our goal is wellness, optimal well-being, rather than the mere absence of illness. Students will learn and practice exercises to help them meet the academic, social, emotional, and physiological challenges of student life in a calm and confident manner. 

    SAILING - 26 Course will present basic sailing theory, technique and safety. On-water drills designed to develop skills and instill self confidence sufficient to pilot one's own craft. (Swim test required) 

    SCUBA - 27 Fee Course $189 - Learn how to scuba dive and become pool certified upon completion of this course. (Open water certification-students responsibility to schedule-additional fee charged.) 

    SELF-DEFENSE - 28 (Full Semester) A comprehensive course in Self-Defense covering the practical aspects of safe daily living; including issues that might arise in dating, traveling by car and by foot, elevators, bathrooms, car jacking, con games, and other activities. Lessons are designed to build self confidence. Fighting skills will be learned and improved each class. 

    SOCIAL DANCE - 29 This course teaches a six-week segment of American Rhythms or Latin Rhythms. Students will learn basic steps, etiquette and enjoy dancing with different partners but are encouraged to register with a partner. 

    SPINNING - 30 Spinning is a unique indoor stationary cycling program created in the 1980's by a world class cyclist.  The Spinning program brings the elements of athletic training to people of all ages and fitness levels. Spinning is an efficient high-energy group exercise that integrates music, camaraderie and visualization in a complete mind/body exercise routine.

    SQUASH - 31 This course teaches proper grip, skills, rules and scoring for the beginner and more advanced skill work for the experienced player. 

    SWIMMING-BEGINNING 32A This course stresses the basic swimming skills needed to enjoy and safely participate in water activities.

    TAI CHI - 33 Fee Course $40 An ancient Chinese form of martial art, exercise and self cultivation characterized by slow, balanced and flowing movement. Promotes relaxation, concentration, improved posture, and overall improvement in the function of the mind and body. 

    TENNIS (Beginner) - 34 Instruction in the fundamental skills of groundstrokes, volleys, overheads and serves. 

    TENNIS (Intermediate/Advanced) - 35 Instruction for the intermediate and advanced player, improvement of techniques. 

    TRAP SHOOTING - 36 Fee for supplies. The course will cover basic firearm safety and trap shooting technique with a special emphasis on importance of firearm safety. 

    ULTIMATE FRISBEE - 37 This course will provide an introduction to the sport of Ultimate Frisbee.  It will cover the rules of the game, as well as the importance of good sporting behavior in a sport where players call their own fouls.  The classes will focus on teaching and developing the skills of throwing, catching, cutting, and defending.

    YOGA - 39 Recognition and management of the symptoms of stress by using the tools of Yoga; such as posture, breathing techniques, meditation, visualization and progressive relaxation. 

    STRENGTH, BONES, AND BEAUTY - 42 Each class will provide an educational discussion of nutrition, life-style, information, and motivation with remaining time spent on exercise instruction , along with practice in the fitness center.  Fortunately, nutrition and life-style habits that create bone health create general health.

    WHAT IT MEANS TO BE NUTRITIONALLY HEALTHY 43 - This course is titled "The Road to Wellness Thru Nutrition". You will learn the everyday nutritional tools that will help you play better. Discover the myths behind the nutrition madness sweeping the country today.

    VOLLEYBALL 45 - Basic instruction conferring all elements of the game: passing, setting, serving and spiking. The class hour will focus on skill development and game activities.
