Colgate University to Host Patriot
League Cross Country Championships
October 22, 2001 HAMILTON, N.Y. –
Colgate University will host the Patriot League men’s and women’s
cross country championships at the Harry Lang Fitness Trail Saturday,
October 27. The men’s race is 8000
meters and will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the women’s race is 6000 meters
and will follow the men at 12:00 p.m. Army will look to defend
its league title from 2000 for the men, returning Patriot League
individual champion Will Wyche (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Boetourt).
Army also returns the second, fourth, 10th and 11th
place finishers from 2000. Colgate returns both of
the Patriot League’s Outstanding Freshmen of the Year with sophomores Louis
DiNuzzo (Loundonville, N.Y./Shaker) and Xavier deBoissezon (Geneva,
Switzerland/Blair Academy) who finished 12th and 15th
at the 2000 championships, respectively. On the women’s side,
Bucknell is favored for a repeat of its 2000 title returning two-time
defending individual champion Becky Marshall (Montgomery, N.Y./Pine
Bush Central). The Bison
also return Theresa Dennis (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Hanover Area) and
Christina Crowe (State College,Pa./State College) who finished third
and sixth, respectively. Colgate returns its lone all-league selection Jenny McCarthy (Rutland, Mass./Wachusetts Region), who took eighth place in 2000.
