Finishes Second at Holy Cross Quad Meet Raiders score 181 points with eight first-place finishes
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WORCESTER, MASS. The Colgate mens track and field team placed second at the Holy Cross Quad Meet on Saturday. Colgate scored 181 points as the University of Maine won the meet with 206. The host Crusaders placed third with 130 points and Central Connecticut State finished last with 56. Junior Waldemar Auguscinski (Passaic, N.J.) scored 27 of Colgates points with one first-place finish, two second-place finishes and a six-place finish. Auguscinski took first in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 50 6.25, second in the hammer throw (140 7), second in the discus (134 1) and sixth in the javelin (123 11). Senior Eric Hiller (Elizabethtown, Pa.) scored 20 points for the Raiders, winning the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.25 and the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.53. Sophomore Robert VanDine (Binghamton, N.Y.) took first in the 800-meter dash (1:56.71) while junior Kyle Barrett (Troy, N.Y.) took second (1:57.14). VanDine also took sixth in the hammer throw (66 10). Senior Tyrone Russell (Ithaca, N.Y.) and sophomore LaBraun Andrews (Memphis, Tenn.) scored 10 points apiece for the Raiders taking first-place in the 400-meter dash (49.53) and high jump (6 7), respectively. Junior Barry Jones had a solid day for Colgate snagging second-place in the long jump (22 9.75), fourth in the triple jump (41 4.25) and fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.48). Junior Louis DiNuzzo (Loudonville, N.Y.) took second in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:24.03) and third in the 5,000-meter run (15:27.70). Junior Xavier de Boissezon (Geneva, Switzerland) placed second in the 5,000-meter run (15:13.20) and fourth in the 1,500-meter run (4:04.11). Freshman Andrew Bloom (Westport, Conn.) took second-place at the meet and placed fifth all-time on the Colgate leader board in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 180. Bloom also took 10th in the discus (85 8). Senior T.J. Smith (Syracuse, N.Y.) took third-place finishes in the long jump (22 8.5) and the 400-meter hurdles (56.32) while junior Ian Hill finished third in the 1,500-meter run (4:01.38). Freshmen Nate Rosenthal (West Hartford, Conn.) and Alex Fuller-Young (Phoenixville, Pa.) had fourth-place finishes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:05.47) and 400-meter hurdles (57.30), respectively. Colgate also scored 20 points with its relay teams as the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays took first place. The Raiders are back in action this week as they participate in the Penn Relays, Wednesday-Saturday, April 23-26.
