MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD TEAM COMPETES AT UC
IRVINE Mar. 23, 2002 IRVINE, CALIF. - The Colgate men's track and field team closed out it's spring break trip to California with Saturday's meet at UC Irvine. Other team competeing Saturday were Cornell, Miami of Ohio, Cal Poly SLO and Yale. The Raiders final score was 92 points for six place. Louis DiNuzzo (Loundonville, N.Y.) score 12 points for Colgate with his fourth place finish in the steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:36.03. DiNuzzo also took 10th place in the 1500 meter run with his time of 4:06.21. Tyrone Russell (Ithaca, N.Y.) finished in second place in the 200 meter dash with a final time of 21.81. Russell was also a part of the second place 4x100 relay team with a time of 42.42, 20 seconds ahead of local rival team Cornell. The 4x100 team that was comprised of TJ Smith (Syracuse, N.Y.), Eric Hiller (Elizabethtown, Pa.), Barry Jones (Ontario, Can.)and Russell, qualified for IC4A's with their time as well as posting themselves fourth on the Colgate record board. Hiller also placed in the 200, finishing fourth at 22.54. Mike Saunders (Albion, N.Y.) brought in 11 points for the Raiders with his second place finish in the 800 with a final time of 1:53.73. Jones improved his 100 time with his fourth place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.23. TJ Smith finished sixth in that race with 11.52. Smith also earned points for his ninth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 20' 4 1/4". The Raiders will return to action Friday, April 5-Saturday, April 6 at William & Mary. |
