Senior Year (2004-05):
Oman
completed the fall with a 5-3 record, playing mostly #3 singles
but also seeing action at #4 and #5. He went 2-2 in singles at
the Volkl Shootout, where he thrashed
Buffalo’s
Yules Hadisubroto at #3 singles 6-1, 6-0 and came from behind to
beat
Niagara’s Alex Abji in a third set superbreaker. Recorded
two more three set victories at the Northeast Invitational,
including a 6-7, 6-4, 14-12 defeat of Maryland’s John O’Rourke
in which he was down a set and 3-0 and later fought off a match
point.
Oman defeated
Matt Stopp of Assumption in straight sets to win fifth place at
the tournament. He also posted a 3-4 doubles record with
Marshall Wheeler, capturing wins over two different teams that
reached the Round of 32 at the Regional Championships (Buffalo’s
Rockman/Liederman and Niagara’s McConkey/Garcia). The team also
fought off match points to defeat Eddie Kang and Sebastian Salas
of Army.
Junior
Year (2003-04):
Oman
recorded a 12-4 record for the season competing at #6 singles.
He won his flight at the Northeast Invitational Tournament at
Brown, defeating Army’s Dave Collins in three sets and
Manhattan’s Pavel Wawryzniak in the semifinals and finals. He
also paired with Blake Willmarth to reach the doubles final,
dropping Army’s Carl Fisher and Sebastian Salas in the
semifinals. Oman won the #4 flight at the Patriot League
Individual Championships without dropping a set, defeating three
more West Point opponents en route to the title. He competed in
the semifinals of the Patriot League semifinals, losing at #6 to
Army’s Sebastian Salas. With Blake Willmarth, Marshall Wheeler,
Eric Saccullo, and Brian Yellin as partners, he posted a 7-4
doubles record for the season. His 28-10 career record gives
him the best career winning percentage among active players.
Pete was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the
spring semester.
Sophomore Year (2002-03): Posted a 10-1 record for the season
including an undefeated 9-0 record during the spring season. Competed
mostly at #6 singles but also saw action at #5. Recorded a straight
sets victory at #6 singles over Gregory “Carl” Fisher of Army. Down a
set and a break, he scored a three set victory over Alexander Praderas
of Barry, and followed that up with a straight sets win over Alejandro
DeFrancisco of Lynn. Also scored convincing league wins over Peter
Titus of Lafayette, Andrew Shapiro of Lehigh, and Jerald DeCheyara of
Bucknell. Competed at #6 singles against Jonah Fliegelman of American
in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals. Posted a 5-3 record in
doubles with Eric Saccullo, Jonathan Bedard, and Jake Heims. Reached
the championship match of the “A” flight in doubles at the Cornell
Indoor Invitational, defeating Buffalo and Cornell along the way.
Clinched two doubles points for Colgate in the spring season with
Bedard against Bloomsburg and with Heims against Stony Brook. Oman
was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the spring
semester.
Freshman Year (2001-02):
Completed the
season with a 6-5 singles record, seeing dual match action at #5 and
#6 singles. Scored a league win over Brian Schubert of Lafayette at
#6 singles, and won two three set matches over UMBC’s Hardja and
Buffalo’s Liederman. Clinched Colgate’s 4-3 victory over St.
Bonaventure with a 6-7 6-3 6-3 victory over Kevin MacDonald at #6
singles. Also played six doubles matches with Evan Ambrose, posting a
3-3 record, including an 8-0 shutout over Gottlieb and Rosenthal of
Binghamton. Was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for
the spring semester.
High School:
Amassed a 70-19
overall record in singles play, including a 22-3 mark at #1 singles in
final preparatory year . . . served as team captain junior and senior
seasons . . . earned Simonds Trophy, awarded to Lawrenceville Prep's
top tennis player, consecutively in 2000 and 2001 . . . garnered first
team all-prep honors in 1999, 2000 and 2001 . . . a member of
Lawrenceville's 1999, 2000 and 2001 NJSIAA Prep A State Championship
teams and Mid-Atlantic Prep League Championship team in 2001 . . .
also competed in basketball and football.
