Sophomore Year (2005):
Went 6-5 in singles and 3-5 in doubles
during the fall season ... posted two victories at the Brown
Invitational in September over Niagara and Montreal ... won his last
four singles matches, all at the Cornell Invitational in October, to
win the Class B Singles ... defeated Adrian Salucci (Hofstra), Kevin
Jay (Cornell), N. Singh-Panthalia (Buffalo) and Marc Asch (Cornell)
en route to the championship ... lost in three sets to Alex Vuckovic
(Princeton) at the ITA Regionals and lost 8-2 along with Chris Innes
in a doubles match at the ITA's ... defeated Brown and Boston
College pairs partnered with Chris Innes at the Brown Invitational
... defeated a pair from Boston University at the Cornell
Invitational in October.
Freshman Year (2004-05):
Gallagher kicked
off his Colgate career with a 4-3 record in singles play, competing
mostly at No. 4 singles ... he scored a three set win over Army senior Josh
Jones in his first college match after dropping the first set 6-1, and
also defeated veteran serve-and-volleyer Randy Rocchio of Buffalo ... Gallagher’s most impressive play in the fall season came, as a
pleasant surprise, in doubles play ... he paired with Reed Hagmann to
post a 7-4 record at No. 1 doubles ... the duo went 4-0 at the Volkl
Tournament, scoring a big win over David Webb and Andres Reyes of
Dartmouth ... they then nearly pulled off one of the greatest upsets in
team history, falling in a tiebreaker to Herbert Chodkiewicz and Roger
Gubser of Texas ... they rebounded to reach the Round of 16 at Regionals,
dispatching of 11th-ranked Alejandro Nery/Nikhil Murali of St. Bonaventure
along the way ... Gallagher and Hagmann lost in the Round of 16 to the
No. 2 seeded team, Virginia Tech’s Stephane Rod and Arvid Puranen, 8-5.
High School:
Gallagher joins
Colgate after completing an impressive junior career, which he
finished as the sixth-ranked player in the New England section in
singles and just outside the top 200 nationally ... he was also
formerly ranked first
in New England in doubles, having won New England sectionals with
current teammate Marshall Wheeler ... he also lettered four years on the
Greens Farms Academy (alma mater of Marshall Wheeler and Chris Innes)
tennis team, playing No. 1 singles his senior year ... he was a member of
the 2001 and 2003 New England Prep Championship teams.
