ITHACA, NY –
The Colgate men's tennis team brought home two of the six
titles at this weekends Cornell Outdoor Tournament thanks in large part to
the play of freshman Blake Willmarth.
Willmarth won the C-Flight singles tournament by winning each of his
four rounds, including knocking off two seeded players. Willmarth
defeated Arellano of Yale 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 in round one. Fourth seeded
Zubatsky of Connecticut was then bounced by Willmarth, 7-6, 6-1.
Willmarth followed that up by beating the top-seeded player, Neuman
from Cornell, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0. He finished off the tournament by
defeating Fisher from Army.
Willmarth then teamed up with senior Andrew Davis to win the
B-Flight doubles championship. They took out teams from Connecticut
and Cornell by scores of 9-8 each. The pair defeated the team from
Army 8-4 and beat the second seeded Yale team 9-7 in the championship
match.
Reed Hagmann and Eric Saccullo also made an impressive showing
in the A-Flight doubles by advancing to the semi-finals before losing to
Cornell.
