COLGATE EARNS A SPLIT IN DAY'S MATCHES

HAMILTON, NY – The Colgate men's tennis team split their Saturday matches, falling to SUNY Stony Brook in the morning before rebounding with a victory over Le Moyne later in the day.

The final score of the Stony Brook match was 3-4.  In the losing effort, Blake Willmarth and Pete Oman won their singles matches, Willmarth beating James Carpenter 6-0, 6-4 in No.5 singles and Oman defeating Philippe Amireault 6-1, 6-2 in No.6 singles.  The No.1 doubles pairing of Andrew Davis and Jon Bedard was also victorious, prevailing 8-6 over Mike Crooks and Egil Anonsen.  In No.3 doubles, Oman and Jake Heims beat Carpenter and Amireault 9-7.

As the 7-0 score line would suggest, the Raiders dominated the Le Moyne match.  Eric Saccullo won his No.1 singles match 7-5, 6-0 over Jani Voudren.  Bedard dominated his No.2 singles match with Jeff Lonczak 6-0, 6-2, as did Heims in No.3 singles, beating Rodrigo Canadas 6-1, 6-0. Brian Yellin was the victor in No.4 singles, winning 7-6, 6-2 over Dave Majcak. 

Davis and Scott Coope also won their No.5 and No.6 singles matches, 8-4 and 8-0 respectively, Davis beating John Wojcik and Coope doing the same to Kevin Pearce.

In doubles, the No.1 pairing of Davis and Bedard prevailed 9-8 (5) over Voudren and Lonczak.  In No. 2 doubles, it was Saccullo and Heims downing Canadas and Majak soundly, 8-0, and in No.3 doubles Yellin and Coope sent Wojcik and Pearce to an 8-2 defeat.

The Raiders are now 7-3 on the season.

Colgate will now travel to Florida to take on Lafayette College on Tuesday, March 18th.  The match is scheduled for a 12:00p.m. start.
