Colgate Defeats Patriot League Champ Army Syracuse, NY. The Colgate men's tennis team handed Army (6-1) its first loss of the season while earning its first Patriot League win in as many matches. The squad's record on the spring improves to 4-2. The win is certainly the team's biggest of the season against a tough Army squad who, just a year ago, flattened Colgate 5-2. The victory is an epitome of the team's development and progress of its young talent. The ability to win close matches seems to be a common theme with this year's team. In doubles action, the pair of Reed Hagmann and JP Johnson edged out Sonny Avichal and Jarrett Skrobarcek 8-6. Zander Lowe and Jon Bedard squeezed out a win at number three by the same score. For the second straight week, sophomore Zander Lowe emerged victorious in the deciding sixth singles match. Where last week he cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win to lift the men over UMBC 4-3, this match proved much tougher. The improving Lowe etched out a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over a resilient Jeff Lau. Meanwhile, freshman leader Hagmann slid by the Black Knight's Arnie Albornoz 4-6, 7-6, 6-2. Hagmann improves to an impressive 13-5 on the season in singles play. Their season still seems to be an uphill climb as they prepare to take on Patriot League newcomer American next weekend. Nonetheless, after taking down undefeated Army, the team now faces winless UMASS (0-4) on Sunday, February 17th at 2:00pm. Singles Doubles Colgate (4-2)
