Eastside Racquet Club, Manlius, NY (4/22) – The Colgate men's tennis team showed a great deal of improvement in its 4-2 season-ending loss to Navy.  The Red Raiders fell to the same Midshipmen squad that defeated them 7-0 earlier in the season.

Colgate jumped out to an early lead by triumphing at the number one and number two doubles slots.  The tandem of Andrew Davis and Jon Bedard overcame a 4-0 deficit to shut down the offense of Cameron Lickle and Chris McGrath.  Freshman star Eric Saccullo dropped a thrilling three set match to tough opponent Ben Saloman.  Andrew Davis gave a strong showing at number four singles by dominating Navy's Heath Marshall.

The fact that Colgate kept this match much closer than their last with Navy bodes well for next season.  While Colgate will not be losing any players in the offseason to graduation,  Navy loses its star Ben Saloman while number one seeded Army will no longer have standout Marshall Clay.  The Red Raiders have the entire off season to continue to coalesce and look to once again threaten in the Patriot League. 

Navy squares off against Army in the finals of the tournament tomorrow, April 22nd, at 10:00am.
