Eastside Racquet Club, Manlius, NY (4/22) – The men’s tennis team advances to the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament with a convincing 4-1 victory over Lafayette.  Coming in as the number three seed, the Red Raiders oust the sixth seed Leopards.  The victory is even more impressive because Colgate was without Captain Evan Paushter in singles action. 

Great singles performances by Josh Cohn and Jon Bedard effectively filled the void left by Paushter’s absence.  Cohn, battling an illness, overpowered Dan Seward, who had no answer for Cohn’s strong serve.  Meanwhile, Bedard’s commanding forehand quelled any opposition from Lafayette’s Mike Levey.  Eric Saccullo, despite suffering from a case of the “tournament jitters,” suppressed a late rally by H’Cone Thompson to win in three sets.  Saccullo, although being down 3-0 in the third set, stormed back to clinch the triumph for the Red Raiders.

Colgate faces a tough Naval Academy squad in the semifinals of the tournament later this afternoon, at 3pm.
