COLGATE MEN DEFEAT LOYOLA AND NIAGARA, FALL TO MARIST, WHILE THE WOMEN SWEEP ALL THREE

LOYOLA, MD - The Colgate University men's swim team won two of its three scoring meets on Saturday, defeating Loyola 261-69 and Niagara 255-75.  The men fell to Marist 185-151.

James Hadley led the way for Colgate with by earning a total of 11 first place finishes on the day.  He won the 50 yard freestyle in 21.64 defeating all three teams.  Hadley was victorious in the 100 freestyle in 46.96 and the 100 butterfly in 51.91.  He was also a member of the 200 freestyle relay team that defeated Niagara and Loyola with a time of 1:26.98.

Other outright event winners were Rich Derrick in the 1650 freestyle in 16:20.71.  The 200 medley relay team took first with a time of 1:37.62.  Tom Noel took three firsts in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:58.69.  Lane Ellis also earned three firsts in the 3-meter dive with a score of 442.55.

The women's team picked up three victories on Saturday by scores of 259-76 over Loyola, 211.5-124.5 over Marist, and 272-61 over Niagara.

Colgate was led by Alice Garnett and Chrissy Zaika.  Each finished with 12 firsts on the day including winning one relay outright.  Garnett earned wins in the 400 IM with a time of 4:33.68, the 200 back in 2:08.59, the 100 back in 1:01.21, and she was a member of the first place 800 freestyle relay team that finished in a time of 7:58.84.

Zaika earned individual firsts in the 50 freestyle in 24.56, the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.25, and the 100 butterfly in 1:00.32.  She was also a member of the 200 freestyle relay team that took first in 1:41.22.

Other outright winners are Meghan Binder in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.52.  Binder also won the 200 IM in 2:14.88.  Sheri Bontrager took first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:28.39.  Jenn Busby won the 3-meter dive with a total score of 425.45.  Meredith Erickson took the top spot in the 200 freestyle in 1:59.57.

Colgate will go to Hawaii for its training trip on January 1st to January 14th and will resume meet action January 15 at Lafayette at 11 a.m.
