WORCESTER, MA - The Colgate swimming and diving teams picked up their first wins of the season on Saturday, defeating Holy Cross 142-99 on the women's side and 143-98 on the men's side.

The women picked up 11 first places in the meet.  Jen Rodgers won the 1-meter dive with a score of 245.25.  Jen Busby took the 3-meter dive with a score of 266.7.

In the pool, Chrisy Zaika and Meghan Binder both had two wins.  Zaika won the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.92 and the 200 butterfly in 2:18.80.  Binder picked up wins in 200 individual medley (2:13.09) and the 200 breaststroke (2:27.63).

Other winners for the women are Kay Smith in the 1000 freestyle (11:11.47), Brittany Wopperer in the 100 freestyle (56.98), and Alice Garnett won the 500 freestyle (5:19.21).

Colgate picked up wins in the 400 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.  The team of Garnett, Zaika, Elizabeth Gaffuri, and Emily Cobb won the 400 medley relay (4:06.34).  Colgate also won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:53.01.

On the men's side, Colgate won nine events.  Lane Ellis won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.  Ellis scored 281.4 in the 1-meter dive and 238.725 in the 3-meter dive.

The men won seven events in the pool.  Rich Derrick won the 1000 freestyle (10:05.84).  Mike Graham took first in the 200 individual medley (2:12.80), Mike Schierhold in the 200 backstroke (2:03.51), Taylor Swick won the 200 breaststroke (2:25.40) and James Hadley took first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.96.

Hadley was also a member of the two winning relay teams for Colgate.  He teamed up with Schierhold, Matt Vuturo and Sasha Barausky for the win in the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:38.81.  Hadley was also a part of the first place 400 freestyle relay team.  He joined Vuturo, Brett Nichols, and Greg Jachno in a time of 3:19.71.

Colgate will take on Patriot League foe Army on Saturday at 12:00 at West Point.
