Colgate Swimmers Stroke Past Hamilton
College Contact: Mike Zimmerman January 24, 2003 HAMILTON, NY - The Colgate University men's and women's swim teams swept Hamilton College on Friday, 135.5-105.5 and 137-106. Senior James Hadley once again led Colgate with victories in the 50 (21.59) and 100 free (46.95). Sophomore Richard Derrick also won two events for the Raiders, finishing the 500 free in 4:53.01 and the 1000 free in 9:58.45. James Marione took first in the 200 free (1:46.98), and the 400 Medley relay team of Hadley, Mike Schierhold, Matt Vuturo, and Greg Jachno brought home a gold with a time of 3:34.93. In women's action, freshman Chrissy Zaika took home top honors in the 100 and 200 free in 53.66 and 1:57.30 respectively. Senior Meredith Erickson took first in the 1000 free in 10:53.92. Sophomore Meghan Binder won the 500 free in 5:14.75, while freshman Brittany Wopperer was victorious in the 50 free (26.08). The 400 free relay team composed of Binder, Erickson, Elizabeth Gaffuri, and Alice Garnett also took gold, as did Garnett, Binder, Gaffuri and Zaika in the 400 medley relay. The Raiders are back in action at noon on Saturday as the take on Cornell in Ithaca.
