COLGATE WOMEN DEFEAT LAFAYETTE, MEN FALL Contact: Mike Zimmerman January 15, 2003 BETHLEHEM, PA - The Colgate University women's swimming team returned to the mainland and picked up a Patriot League win over Lafayette, 140-99. The men's squad was not as fortunate as they lost 144-97. The women's team was led by Chrissy Zaika and Alice Garnett who each won three events including one relay. Zaika was victorious in the 50 free in a time of 25.12 and the 100 free with a time of 54.66. Garnett took top honors in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.80 and the 200 Back in 2:12.87. The two teamed up with Meghan Binder and Meredith Erickson to win the 400 medley relay in 4:05.17. Colgate won four other events on the women's side. Kate Martin took the 1000 free (11:08.11), Emily McAuiliff won the 3 meter diving (244.95), Jenn Rodgers earned a first in the one-meter dive (232.95) and the 400 free relay team of Erickson, Caroline Curtis, Katherine DelPrato and Elizabeth Gaffuri took first in 3:43.74. The men's team won only three events in the loss to Lafayette. Lane Ellis took top honors in the three-meter dive with a score of 314.40. Mark Falkner won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:17.63, and the 400 medley relay team of Mike Scheirhold, Matt Vuturo, James Hadley, and Greg Jachno hit the wall first in a time of 3:38.03. Colgate is next action this Saturday when it hosts Bucknell at the Lineberry Natatorium at 1 p.m.
