HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Colgate Raiders squared off against the Wildcats of New Hampshire and the Catamounts of Vermont this afternoon at New Hampshire's Swasey Pool. Colgate men defeated both teams by scores of 131 to New Hampshire's 109 and 185 to Vermont's 51.  The women split Saturday's decision defeating Vermont by a score of 171-71 and losing to New Hampshire 150-91.

Three Colgate freshmen led the way for the men as swimmers Brett Nichols and Rich Derrick, and diver Lane Ellis all had an impressive meet. Nichols won the 1000 yard freestyle by more than thirteen seconds in 10:13.44, as well as the 200 yard backstroke in a time of 2:00.29.

Derrick won the 500 yard freestyle in 4:53.46 and took second in the 200 yard freestyle trailing New Hampshire's Mike Krajewski by only three seconds. Junior James Hadley also contributed to Colgate's cause by winning the 50 yard freestyle in 22.15.

Ellis swept both diving events winning the 1 meter with an overall score of 268.70 and tying for first with teammate Christian Johnson in the 3 meter board, both scoring 279.79.

Krajewski also won the 200 yard butterfly and anchored the 400 freestyle relay to victory in the final event of the afternoon.  Wildcat senior Tom Reynolds won the 200 IM and the 200 breaststroke.  New Hampshire swept both relay events.

On the women's side, junior Elizabeth Gaffuri and freshman Jenn Busby were the only Raiders to win their events.

Gaffuri won both the 100 and 200 yard freestyle in times of 54.50 and 1:56.88, respectively. Busby claimed the 3 meter title with an overall score of 255.10 and took second in the 1 meter board losing to UNH's Heather Brogan by only a tenth of a point.

The UNH women's team won ten of the thirteen events as six different swimmers and one diver all took home their respective titles. UNH's Kristen Nardozzi was the only Wildcat to win two events taking the 200 yard backstroke in 2:00.72 and the 200 IM in 2:08.58.

Vermont failed to win a single event in the meet.
