HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Colgate University men's and women's swim teams fell to Syracuse Saturday with scores of 125.5-115.5 and 152-87 respectively.

"The team accepted the challenge of swimming a great team like Syracuse," said Colgate head coach Bill Roberts.  "I was very proud of the times and effort they put forth."

On the women's side, Alice Garnett, Meghan Binder, Laura Chadderdon and Elizabeth Gaffuri set a new school record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:52.07.

"A solid swim by this contingent," said Coach Roberts of the 200 medley relay team. "This relay is only going to improve this season."

Elizabeth Gaffuri also finished first in the 100 free with a time of 55.03.

Junior Matt Vuturo came up big for the Raiders, winning two races for the men.  Vuturo took first place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.12 and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.88

"Matt came to race today. He fought hard in both races and, as a result, put up some solid times," Roberts said.

For the divers, freshman Lane Ellis set a new freshmen record and made his NCAA National Zone cut in his first meet and Alissa Bell made her NCAA National Zone cut in both boards.

"Their performances are a testimony to their hard work and outstanding coaching," said Roberts. "These two represent a very strong group of Colgate divers who are tough to beat."

The Raiders host Holy Cross next Saturday, October 27 at 2:00.
