COLGATE FALLS TO BUCKNELL Jan. 19, 2001 Lewisburg, Pa. - The Colgate men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Bucknell in a Patriot League meet Saturday. The men's team (6-5, 2-3 PL) lost 145-93, while the women's team (7-4, 3-2 PL) dropped a 139-102 decision. Freshman diver Lane Ellis (Warwick, N.Y.) was the Raiders leading point scorer, winning both boards for a total of 18 points. Senior Chris Johnson (Crestwood, N.Y.) had a third and place finish on the one-meter and three-meter boards, respectively, for a total of 5 points. Sasha Barausky (Pawling, N.Y.) placed in three events for Colgate finishing fourth in the 200 free (1:50.76), fifth in the 100 free (51.72) and first in the 200 breast (2:31.46). Richard Derrick (Liverpool, N.Y.) took second place in the 1000 free (10:09.80) and third in the 500 free (4:58.42) while Brett Nichols (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) took third in the 1000 free (10:15.21), the 200 IM (2:00.98) and the 200 back (2:02.69). The Raider 400 relay teams took first and second with final times of 3:23.98 (Greg Jachno, Chris Kinsella, Richard Derrick and Mike Gentihes) and 3:34.70 (Aaron Weddle, Mike Schierhold, Daniel Guttentag and Andrew Wright). The 400 medley team took second place with a time of 3:39.53 (Mike Schierhold, Matt Vuturo, Andrew Wright and Greg Jachno). On the women's side, freshman diver Jenn Busby (Andover, Mass) took first place finishes in both boards. Alissa Bell (Louisville, Ky.) took third place in both the one-meter and three-meter boards. Elizabeth Gauffuri (Albany, N.Y.) took first place in the 200 free (1:58.61) and second in the 100 free (55.53) and was a part of the winning 400 free team with a time of 3:42.41. Also a part of that relay team were Caroline Curtis, Meredith Erickson and Alice Garnett. Garnett (Wilmette, Ill.) took the 200 IM for the Raiders (2:10.65) and placed second in the 200 back (2:11.06) Freshman Meghan Binder (Sudbury, Mass.) placed in three events for Colgate finishing fourth in the 200 IM (2:15.86), second in the 200 butterfly (2:13.13) and third in the 200 breast (2:33.52). The Raiders return to action on Jan. 26 at Cornell. |
