HAMILTON, NY - The Colgate men's soccer team controlled its own destiny, win two games and the Raiders were in the playoffs. Those hopes came to a screeching halt Saturday night as Colgate fell to American 2-1. American got two goals from Patriot League leading scorer Andrew Herman to propel the Eagles to the win. Herman's first goal came at 48:01 off a pass from Kris Kuykendall giving American a 1-0 lead. The Raiders bounced back and tied the score at one when Brian McDermott (Willingboro, NJ/Moorestown) sent a direct kick to Reed Grimes (Lexington, KY/Henry Clay) who headed in the net at 68:14 to nod the score at 1-1. Herman scored his second goal from Kuykendall at 73:52 giving American the 2-1 victory. Will Martin (Excelsior, MN/Breck) made 13 saves for the Raiders, who were outshot 21-8, but outcornered American 4-3. American now 12-6-1 advances to the Patriot League playoffs next weekend, while Colgate now 8-7-3 wraps up its season Monday at home against Lafayette at 7 p.m.
