HAMILTON, NY - Without any hope of making the playoffs, the Colgate men's soccer team defeated Lafayette College, 2-1 in the 2002 season finale Monday night at Van Doren Field.

In their last collegiate game, senior co-captains Andrew Rollins (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) and Marc Hubbard (Durham, NH/Oyster River) carried the team to victory with two first-half goals.  Colgate carried the early two goal lead into halftime and held off the late offensive push from Lafayette for the win.

Rollins netted his second goal of the year in the 13th minute taking a rebound off of a Zach Stuppy (York, ME/York) shot, putting it past Lafayette keeper, Mike Tortora.  Stuppy and sophomore Jon Cook (Oneonta, NY/Lauren's Central) were given assists on the goal.

Three minutes later, Hubbard directed Brian McDermott's (Willingboro, NJ/Moorestown) indirect kick into the top right corner of the net, past Tortora, for his first of the year.

Starting Colgate goalkeeper Jon Brunell (Holden, MA/St. John's) recorded his third victory of the year saving three shots and allowing one goal to freshman Joe Wertz in the 65th minute.

Brunell was forced out of the game in the 77th minute with a knee injury and was replaced by Will Martin (Excelsior, MN/Breck), who did not face a shot in 13 minutes of action.

Tortora made seven saves, allowing two goals.

Lafayette ends the season 3-2-2 in the Patriot League and 8-5-4 overall heading into the Patriot League tournament.  Colgate ends the season 9-7-3 with a 3-4-0 league mark.
