HAMILTON, N.Y.  - The Colgate men's soccer team picked up its first win in the Patriot League this season by defeating unbeaten Holy Cross 3-2 on Saturday night.

The Raiders got on the board first at 27:31 when Peter Bourquin (Avon, CT/Avon) sent a corner in to Zack Stuppy (York, ME/York) who headed the ball past goalie Kevin Baker.

Colgate scored 13 minutes later when Bourquin sent a through ball to John Gelman (Eastchester, NY/Eastcheter) who put it past Baker when he came out early on the play.

The maroon and white picked up goal number three at 59:37 when Jon Cook (Oneonta, NY/St. John's) slotted one in the net off passes from Bourquin and Mark Biron (Shorewood, MN/Minnetonka).

Holy Cross picked up two late goals to make the game close but Colgate dominated most of the play.

Holy Cross outshot Colgate 15-8 and outcornered the Raiders 6-4.

Baker came into the game leading Division I in goals against average but gave up three goals, more than he had allowed all season.

Will Martin (Excelsior, MN/Breck) made seven key saves in the early minutes to keep the Crusaders out of the net.

Colgate moves to 4-4-2 on the season and 1-2 in the Patriot League.  They play next at Hartwick on Wednesday October 9 at 7 p.m.
