COLGATE BREAKS OUT OF OFFENSIVE SLUMP IN 3-2 OVERTIME WIN OVER SIENA

HAMILTON, NY  - The Colgate University men's soccer team broke out of its 200 minute scoreless drought early and used an overtime goal by Justin Seconi (Rochester, NY/Rochester) to defeat Siena 3-2 on Wednesday.

Colgate scored quickly in the torrential downpour, getting a goal at :50 from Andrew Rollins (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire), his first of the season.  Marc Hubbard (Durham, NH/Oyster River) assisted on the goal as he sent a cross over the goalie to Rollins who volleyed it in the back of the net.

Colgate increased its lead to 2-0 at 7:32.  Zack Stuppy (York, ME/York) was the recipient of two nice passes from Hubbard and Brian McDermott (Willingboro, NJ/Moorestown).  McDermott played a free kick to Hubbard who headed the ball to Stuppy who beat the keeper for his fourth goal of the season.

Siena would score at 19:20 when C.J. Melilli scored after Jesse Searby sent a free-kick to his feet.  Melilli beat the keeper cutting the Raider lead to 2-1.

The game was played scoreless until 89:10 when Siena scored a late goal on a corner kick.  Joe Vitale played the corner in to teammate Tom Santoro who headed the ball in the net tying the score at 2-2.

The two teams headed to overtime, but it would be a short extra period as Seconi took a pass from Travis Rains (Wilmington, NC/J.T. Hoggard), beat a defender and blasted a shot in the back of the net giving Colgate a 3-2 victory.  The goal came just thirty seconds into overtime.

Colgate outshot Siena 15-14, but was outcorned 6-4 by the Saints.

Jon Brunell (Holden, MA/St. John's) making his first start in net since the first game of the season due to injury, picked up his first win of the season and made nine saves.

Colgate now 5-5-3 on the season travels to Binghamton for a 3 p.m. kickoff this Saturday.
