HAMILTON, N.Y.  - The Colgate University men's soccer team scored first on Tuesday night but Cornell picked up two goals and won the game 2-1 on a penalty kick just two minutes into the second half.

Colgate, now 2-3-2 overall, scored in the 34th minute when Zack Stuppy (York, ME/York) put the ball past the Cornell keeper.  The play was set up by two nice passes from Marc Hubbard (Durham, NH/Oyster River) and Kevin Meehan (Westlake, OH/St. Ignatius) who both received assists on the play.

The Big Red would strike back quickly as Evan Weiner knocked in a headball off a pass from Arturo Solis in the 39th minute tying the score at 1-1.

Cornell would take the lead for good at 47:15 when a Cornell player was fouled in the penalty box.  Liam Hoban took the penalty kick and slotted it in the net past keeper Will Martin (Excelsior, MN/Breck) giving Cornell the 2-1 victory.

Colgate had its opportunities in front of the net but a breakaway chance by Mark Biron (Shorewood, MN/Minnetonka) was stopped and Stuppy missed from point blank range.

Shots were even at 11 for the match and Colgate outcornered Cornell 11-2, but was unable to capitalize.

Martin made six saves and turned Cornell away on some breakaway chances.

Colgate next hosts Patriot League foe Lehigh Saturday night at 7 p.m.
