RAIDERS DOWN CANISIUS, 7-2 HAMILTON, N.Y. - Six different players scored goals as the Colgate University men's soccer team defeated Canisius Wednesday 7-3 in non-conference play. The Raiders out-shot the Griffins 21-10. Colgate got on the board early in the game with a goal by senior Tim Gerges (Simsbury, Conn.), assisted by Reed Grimes (Lexington, Ky.) 43 seconds into the first half. Junior Matt Davis (Canterbury, Conn.) put the Raiders ahead 2-0 in the eighth minute with a high kick from the midfield that dropped behind Canisius' keeper, Dave Borchard (Williamsville, N.Y) and rolled into the goal. Peter Bourquin (Avon, Conn.) continued the scoring for Colgate with a goal in the 10th minute, assisted by Gerges. Brad Kenny (Grand Island, N.Y.) put the Griffins on the board in the 13th minute with a goal off an assist by Neil Gladston (Whitby, Ont.). The Raiders would score one last time in the first half when Mark Biron (Shorewood, Minn.) scored his first collegiate goal off of a pass from Jon Gelman (Eastchester, N.Y.). Kenny finished all scoring in the first half off a direct kick in the 32nd minute. Colgate got on the board in the second half when Bourquin fed the ball to Grimes, who found Zach Stuppy (York, Maine) in front of the goal in the 64th minute. Biron scored his second goal of the night for the Raiders when he took a pass from Andy Ervin (Emmaus, Pa.) and lofted the ball over Borchard's head. Colgate freshman Jonathon Cook (Oneonta, N.Y.) finished all scoring with his first collegiate goal in the 80th minute, assisted by Kit Edwards (Getzville, N.Y.). Colgate improves to 3-5 and returns to Patriot League play, where it is 1-1, at Holy Cross on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 3:00 p.m.
