PHILADELPHIA, PA - Jonathan Cook (Oneonta, N.Y./Laurens Central) scored his second goal of the season to break a scoreless tie as Colgate University edged Philadelphia 1-0 at Ravenhill Field Wednesday. Colgate improves to 4-8 and Philadelphia drops to 8-6.
After battling through a scoreless first half, Cook made a lunging play to force the ball into the back of the net in the 60th minute off of a Marc Hubbard (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) head ball. Junior Matt Davis (Canterbury, Conn./Norwich Free) started the play sending a lofted ball forward to Hubbard.
Both teams played evenly with Colgate holding a 16-12 advantage in shots and Philadelphia maintaining a 10-2 differential in corner kicks.
Colgate keeper Will Martin (Excelsior, Minn./Breck) held off the Philadelphia attack with nine saves to preserve the Raider win, earning his second shutout of the season. Joe Pollock made 10 saves for Philadelphia.
Colgate returns to action Saturday, October 20 when it will take on New York Region rival Hartwick College at 7:00 at Van Doren Field. |
