Hartwick Downs Raiders, 1-0, in Overtime Contact: Christina Cracolici Phone: (315) 228-6761
Hamilton, N.Y. - Mike Piagentini scored his first goal of the season in the 94th minute to lift Hartwick College to a 1-0 overtime victory over Colgate, Saturday at Van Doren Field. With the win, Hartwick improves to 7-6 on the season while Colgate falls to 4-9.
Hartwick outshot the Raiders 18 to seven but could not find the back of the net throughout regulation, hitting balls both high and wide of the goalposts.
Piagentini sealed the win for Hartwick when he took a square ball from Damien Charlton and blasted a 27-yard shot into the upper right corner of the nets past diving Colgate keeper Jon Brunell (Holden, Mass./St. John's).
Brunell and fellow Raider Will Martin (Excelsior, Minn./Breck) split time in between the posts for Colgate. Martin made two saves in 45 minutes, while Brunell played the next 48 minutes making two saves and allowing one goal.
Hartwick keeper Randall Moate made three saves on seven Colgate shots.
Colgate's Marc Hubbard (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) played well defensively for the Raiders.
Colgate returns to action Wednesday, October 24 at 7:30 for a non-league contest against Oneonta State at Van Doren Field.
