Lewisburg, P.A. – In
a matchup of Patriot League rivals, the Colgate University
men’s soccer team lost to Bucknell University 3-0 Saturday
afternoon.
After winning three straight games, the Red Raiders suffered
their second consecutive loss and second loss in conference
action this season.
Colgate (3-5-0, 0-2-0 Patriot League) had
plenty of chances throughout the game, but for the Red
Raiders, breaks just seemed hard to come by.
Colgate, down by three goals early in the second half,
pressed for the remainder of the game as they outshot Bucknell
13-5. Colgate
held the game advantage as well with a 21-16 margin.
Unfortunately for Colgate, they could not capitalize on any of
their chances as Bucknell goalkeeper Steve Whitaker recorded
the shutout.
Bucknell Senior midfielder Geza
Lendvai-Littner deflected teammate Brian Johnson’s cross as
he dashed through the goalie box to give the Bison (3-4-1,
2-0-0 Patriot League) a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute
of play.
Bucknell gained a two-goal advantage when
forward Chris Beekman took on the Colgate’s defense by
himself as he dribbled around a Red Raider defender and
blasted it past goalkeeper Jon Brunell with 10:19 remaining to
play in the half.
Bucknell started the second half wasting
no time as they came out on the offensive.
Lendvai-Littner, in the 46th minute,
bypassed an open shot and passed it back to teammate Andrew
Aurand who took the shot from the top right corner of the
penalty box raising Bucknell’s lead to 3-0.
Bucknell’s insurmountable lead was never
threatened as Colgate could not profit from any of their
scoring chances nor exploit Bucknell’s tough defense.
The
Red Raiders continue action Tuesday, September 26th
against rival Cornell University.
Kickoff begins at 7:00 PM at Van Doren Field.
