LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The
Colgate men's soccer team opened the 2000 season with a tough
6-2 loss against Philadelphia University in the first round of
the Rider Invitational.
Jason Dzielak scored his
first career hat-trick to lead Philadelphia to the
victory. Dzielak scored his first goal 18 minutes into
the game to put the Rams ahead 1-0 and Rob Miller added a goal
to take a 2-0 halftime advantage.
Dzielak made it 3-0 seven
minutes into the second half and Philadelphia had built a 6-0
lead before Brendan Skonieczki recorded the first Red Raider
goal. Matt Davis assisted on Skonieczki's goal and Marc
Hubbard scored the other Colgate goal on a feed from
Skonieczki.
Not taking anything away from
Philadelphia's performance, but the Red Raiders were
devastated by injuries in the preseason and were without
several key players.
Despite the large margin of
victory, Colgate outshout Philadelphia 16-14.
Philadelphia's Mike Hamilton made four saves and no goals,
while Joe Pollock allowed both Red Raider markers. Will
Martin made five saves for Colgate.
The Red Raiders will resume action in
the tournament when they play Northeastern at noon, while host
Rider plays Philadelphia at 2:30.
