Men’s Lacrosse Edged
by Cornell, 8-7
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore Jason Vasas (Fairport, N.Y.) scored three unassisted goals Tuesday evening as the Colgate men’s lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker to Cornell, 8-7. With the loss, Colgate falls to 1-2 on the season while the Big Red improve to 1-1. The Raiders jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as senior Nick Gerken (Wilton, Conn.), Vasas, and senior Peter Watts (Wayland, Mass.) all scored in the first quarter. Gerken and Watts’ goals were assisted by senior Scott Herbst (Short Hills, N.J). Cornell got on the board as Dave Pittard tallied a goal, assisted by Andrew Collins. Vasas responded, netting back-to-back goals to put Colgate up 5-1. The Big Red closed the second quarter with a goal and added two more at the start of the third to pull within one, 5-4 before Watts scored the final goal of the third with less than a minute on the clock to put the Raiders up, 6-4. Freshman Chris Devens (Sewickley, Pa.) scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Gerken, to put Colgate up 7-4 with 13.26 left in the game. Cornell closed out the game with four unanswered points, with the game winner coming off the stick of Collins at 2:12. The Raiders are back in action on Wednesday, March 12 as they host Sacred Heart on Tyler’s Field at 3:30 p.m. CU 7, CR 8 GOALS:
