ARMY DEFEATS COLGATE, 15-7, IN PATRIOT
LEAGUE ACTION April 9, 2002 WEST POINT, N.Y.- Army scored twelve goals in the second half to Colgate's three to overcome a 4-3 halftime deficit in Patriot League men's lacrosse action Tuesday. Colgate falls to 5-5 on the season and 2-2 in the league while Army improved to 5-4 and 3-1. Army opened all scoring with three first period goals, two in the last minute of play but the Raiders would answer back with four of their own in the second period to hold the lead at the half. Colgate's four goal run in the second was started by junior Nick Gerken (Wilton, Conn.) at 12:45. Gerken finished the game leading the Raiders with two goals and an assist. Junior Joe Parker (Crofton, Md.) earned one of his two goals at 7:02, with the assist to Gerken. Andrew Houston (Short Hills, N.J.) and Scott Herbst (Short Hills, N.J.) finished off the second periods scoring with their goals at 6:29 and 3:33, respectively. The Black Knights exploded for a six point run after the halftime break to take the lead from the Raiders for good. Jimmy Vlahakias tallied all three of his goals for Army in the third period to lead the run. Chris Michaels (Pennington, N.J.) and Parker tallied CU's two goals. Army again tallied six goals in the final period to seal the victory. Gerken scored the lone Raider goal in the final period to finish the game with two. Vlahakias led all goal scorers with three goals. Colgate goalkeeper Chris Hettler (Liverpool, N.Y.) recorded a season high 17 saves. Colgate continues its Patriot League road
swing, visiting Bucknell Sunday April 14 before returning home to host
Lehigh April 20.
