VILLANOVA HANDS RAIDERS 14-6 LOSS March 23, 2002 VILLANOVA, Pa.- The Colgate men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-6 decision to Villanova Saturday afternoon, snapping the Wildcats three-game losing streak. The Raiders drop to 3-3 on the season while Villanova improves to 2-3. Randall Calvert and Dave Cacciabeve each scored four goals to lead the Wildcats while the Villanova defense held Colgate scoreless in both the second and fourth quarters to earn the victory. After Colgate freshman Matt Saxon (Bethesda, Md.) tallied the first goal of the game at 10:23, the Wildcats rallied for three goals in a four minute span to capture a 3-1 lead with 2:03 left to play in the opening quarter. The Raiders cut the Villanova lead to one with Andrew Houston's (Short Hills, N.J.) goal at 1:53. Villanova went on to outscore Colgate 4-0 in the second quarter and gain a 7-2 advantage at the intermission. The Raiders rallied for a comeback in the third period, outscoring the Wildcats 4-3 on goals from Nick Gerken (Wilton, Conn.), Scott Herbst (Short Hills, N.J.) and Joe Parker (Crofton, Md.). Gerken tallied two goals in the Colgate run. Villanova refused to be denied and scored the final six goals of the game for the 14-6 win. Raider keeper Chris Hettler (Liverpool, N.Y.) made 16 saves in his 60 minutes of play. The Colgate men's lacrosse team will open
up its Patriot League season at home Saturday, March 30 at Tyler's
Field. Face-off is set for 1:00.
