EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette men's lacrosse team
earned their first Patriot League win of the season in a 5-4
victory over the visiting Red Raiders of Colgate at Metzgar
Fields.
Senior goalkeeper Duncan Woodard (New Canaan,
Conn./St. George's) led the defensive battle by stopping 25
shots to bring his season total to 133.
Morgan Battle (Princeton, N.J./The Hun School) led
the attack scoring the first two Leopard goals to go ahead 2-1
in the first quarter. He is currently in second place for
Lafayette scoring 11 on the season. Colgate's Ian Franke
notched the only goal in the second quarter to tie the game at
2-2 entering halftime.
Senior Kevin Bromby (Ipswich, Mass./Governor Dummer)
put the Leopards ahead 3-2 on his 30th goal of the season less
than five minutes into the third quarter. Colgate fought back
to even the game by a goal from Daniel Hatton to send the
teams into the fourth quarter tied at 3-3.
Lafayette came out tough offensively and quickly jumped to
a 5-3 lead by a stellar effort from sophomore Matt Prevost
(Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) who tallied two goals to place him at
five for the season. The Leopards held on to win 5-4 despite a
late fourth quarter rally from the Red Raiders who found the
back of the net on a goal by Nick Gerken.
Lafayette points were turned in by Pat Lennon
(Darien, Conn./Darien) and Ted Blackburn (Sea Cliff,
N.Y./North Shore) who each recorded an assist in the first
quarter of play.
