COLGATE STRONG DEFENSIVELY IN 6-2 LOSS AGAINST DARTMOUTH IN NEW CANAAN, CONN.

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Senior Schuyler Minert had two goals and one assists to lead the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team to a 6-2 victory in a defensive struggle Saturday against Colgate University.

The Big Green (1-0) held a 2-1 advantage at halftime and then pulled away with a three-goal burst in the third quarter.

Ryan Asher got Colgate on the board first just 43 seconds into the game.  Dartmouth's Georges Dyer answered for the Big Green a minute later.

In the second quarter, Big Green junior Connor Price started a stretch of four straight Dartmouth goals.

Minert sandwiched a pair of goals around one by senior Chris O'Hara in the third period, before Colgate's Danny Grady and Dartmouth's Jake Dwyer each each netted one in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore goalie Mike Gault had a strong day for Dartmouth with 15 saves as sophomore Wes Lippman, junior Ryan Duffy and seniors Scott Kinum and Alex Grishman anchored the defense.

Colgate's Chris Hettler had eight saves in his second collegiate start.  

The Red Raiders face Cornell in Ithaca on Tuesday with face-off at 4 p.m.
