RED RAIDERS EARN FIRST-EVER WIN AGAINST ARMY, 11-10
O'Reilly scores game-winning goal with 1:56 remaining in fourth quarter

West Point, N.Y. - Danny Grady scored five goals and Trevor O'Reilly added three, including the game-winner with 1:56 remaining in the game, to lead Colgate to its first-ever men's lacrosse victory over Army, 11-10 Tuesday night at Michie Stadium.

Army, which entered the game 19-0 all-time against Colgate, trailed 10-7 in the fourth quarter before rallying with three straight goals in a span of 5:05. Tom Martin had a hand in all three goals, as he assisted on Tim Pearson's extra-man tally with 7:46 left, scored himself on a pretty one-on-one move with 3:49 to go, then set up John Ryan's tying goal with 2:41 remaining.

But Colgate, which controlled the faceoff game all night behind All-Patriot Leaguer Parker Gibson, won the biggest draw of the night following Ryan's tying goal. On the ensuing possession, O'Reilly sprinted from the top of the box to the left of the goal and scored the game-winner from 20 feet out.

Army had two possessions in the final minute but could not muster a quality scoring chance.

Colgate improved to 2-5 overall and 1-0 in Patriot League play, while Army slipped to 3-3, 1-2. Since joining the Patriot League in 1991, it is the first time the Cadets have dropped two conference games in one year. In fact, Army entered the season 43-2 all-time in Patriot League play.

Grady and goalie Paul Abrahimzadeh helped the Red Raiders get off to a good start in this one. Grady exploded for four goals and one assist in the first half, while Abrahimzadeh made 12 saves in the opening 30 minutes as Colgate took a 6-4 halftime lead.

With the contest knotted at 2-2 late in the opening period, Grady scored twice in succession to give the visitors their first two-goal lead of the day. Later in the second quarter, he scored again to make it 6-3.

Martin scored just before halftime, and Jimmy Vlahakis and Lee Dingman scored the first two goals of the second half to get the Cadets even at 6-6. But just when Army seemed to have regained the momentum, Colgate struck twice in the final minute of the third quarter. Grady posted goal No. 5 with 41 seconds left, and O'Reilly scored his first of three just 12 seconds later.

A John Menton goal early in the fourth made it three straight for the Red Raiders and built their lead back to three at 9-6. Army's Jim Silliman and Colgate's O'Reilly traded goals less than a minute apart midway through the final period, setting up the Cadets' tying spurt.

Pearson, Martin and Vlahakis all scored two goals apiece, while Martin added a pair of assists for his third four-point game of the year. Dominik Nogic made 11 saves for Army, while Abrahimzadeh finished with 17 for Colgate.

Army outshot Colgate 41-33, but the Red Raiders led 43-41 in ground balls and captured 14 of the 24 faceoffs, including the final four draws of the game.

The Cadets return to action Saturday against 17th-ranked Delaware at 4 p.m. at Michie Stadium, while Colgate hosts Butler on Friday at 4 p.m.
