RED RAIDERS EARN FIRST
VICTORY
OF THE SEASON AGAINST ALBANY 16-4
Hamilton, N.Y. - The Colgate
University men's lacrosse team got the confidence
boost they needed on Saturday as the squad
knotched its first victory of the season in a
convincing 16-4 win over Albany.
Colgate (1-5) jumped out to an
early 4-0 lead as four different Red Raiders
scored in the first 10 minutes. Albany (0-3)
would remain scoreless going into the second
quarter until Sal Massa tallied his team's first
goal at 13:29. Colgate retaliated as Parker
Gibson netted his second goal and Matthew Cihon
netted his first of three goals to give the Red
Raiders an 8-1 halftime lead.
At the start of the third, Jim
Lindsay converted on a pass by Matt Duball to
give the Great Danes their second goal. But
Colgate would come back to tally three more goals
in less than five minutes to make it 11-2 with
7:35 remaining in the third quarter. The Red
Raiders had momentum on their side as Danny Grady
scored his first goal of the game, while Gibson
and Cihon eached tallied their third before the
fourth quarter.
Jeremy Smith made it 15-4 for
Albany with his goal, before Steve Grzelka found
the back of the net for Colgate as the Red
Raiders hung on for the win.
Gibson and Cihon each had a hat
trick for Colgate, while Trevor O'Reilly added a
pair.
Paul Abrahimzadeh allowed three
goals and recorded 10 saves in 37:30 of action,
while Chris Hettler relieved him stopping three
shots and allowing just one goal.
The Red Raiders travel to Army on
Tuesday, March 28 at 7 p.m.
