RED RAIDERS GIVE NO. 6 GEORGETOWN AT TEST IN SEASON OPENER

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senior attackman Andy Flick (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) scored four goals and added two assists to lead the sixth-ranked Georgetown men's lacrosse team to a 14-7 victory over Colgate on Kehoe Field on Saturday, February 26. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 1-0 on the season, while Colgate falls to 0-1 in the season opener for both teams.

Sophomore midfielder Steve Dusseau (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) tallied three goals and an assist, while attackman Peter Velepec (Sr., Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) registered two goals. Sophomore Brett Wagner (Glen Arm, Md./Calvert Hall College) also notched two goals along with two assists for the Hoyas.

The Red Raiders were led by senior attackman Trevor O'Reilly' two goals and junior attackman Danny Grady who also recorded two goals and one assist.

GU started slowly as Colgate posted two early first quarter goals. Senior attackman John Menton opened the scoring 11:36 into the contest, followed by Grady's first score at the 6:22 mark to give the Red Raiders a 2-0 lead. The Hoyas responded behind junior midfielder Scott Doyle's (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) tally at the 5:57 mark of the quarter. Junior midfielder Parker Gibson closed out the scoring in the quarter with a goal at 4:40 to give Colgate a 3-1 lead heading into the second period.

In the second, GU ran off five goals compared to the Red Raiders one to take a 6-4 lead, which the Hoyas never relinquished. Dusseau rang one into the net with an assist from Flick at the 13:47 mark. Flick notched his first goal of the afternoon at 10:59, while Dusseau posted his second at 8:42 giving Georgetown a 4-3 lead. Colgate would tie it up, 4-4, at 4:27 as O'Reilly tallied his first goal. GU would find the back of the net two more times in the period as Dusseau (3:52) and Wagner (1:10) gave the Hoyas the advantage heading into intermission.

Georgetown continued to open it up in the third stanza. Velepec took the feed from Flick to record his first goal of the season at 12:14. Almost two minutes later, Wagner stopped the clock again (10:19) giving GU an 8-4 edge. Colgate pulled within two, as sophomore midfielder Ian Franke (9:30) and Grady (6:39) with and assist from Gibson would make the score 8-6. Preseason Second Team All-America attackman Scott Urick (Sr., Fairfax, Va./Robinson) and attackman Mike Hammer (Fr., Fairfax, Va./Robinson) would each notch a goal at the 4:19 and 3:34 marks, respectively, to give the Hoyas a 10-6 lead. Doyle assisted on Urick's goal. Colgate' O'Reilly blasted in a score at 1:11, but Velepec with an assist from Wagner came back one minute later to give GU an 11-7 margin. Flick would post three straight goals in the fourth period. He scored at 9:39 assisted by Hammer, 8:53 with an assist from Dusseau, and 2:20 in an extra man situation, off a feed from Urick, for the final 14-7 win.

GU goalkeeper Scott Schroeder (So., Summit, N.J./Summit) registered seven saves while allowing seven goals. Colgate goalie Paul Abrahimzadeh nabbed 13 saves while allowing 14 goals.

Georgetown returns to action on Saturday, March 4, when it hosts Army at 1:00 p.m. on Kehoe Field.
