Represent USA in North American Championships
Colgate's Darryl Campbell and Shep Harder are
among the nation's top seniors who will compete
for Team USA in the fourth annual North American
College Hockey Championships, which will be
played Saturday and Sunday, April 15-16.
The championships, a two-game series vs. Team
Canada, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the
Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
The championships will conclude at 2 p.m. Sunday
at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario. Team
Canada's roster comprises seniors from CIAU
schools.
Campbell and Harder join 18 other seniors from
NCAA institutions on the 20-man roster. Fourteen
teams are represented on the roster and Colgate
is among five teams that have placed two players
on the squad. Other ECAC players on the 20-player
squad include St. Lawrence's Justin Harney. Five
alternates have also been named to the squad,
including Doug Stienstra of Cornell.
Campbell, a native of Strathroy, Ontario,
compiled 45 points, including 20 goals, in 34
games to help the Red Raiders earn a berth in the
2000 NCAA East Regional Championship in Albany,
New York. His 1.29 points-per-game average ranked
19th nationally. A forward, Campbell earned ECAC
all-conference honorable mention honors in
1999-00, amassing 26 points in 20 conference
contests to finish fifth overall in the
conference scoring race with 1.30 points per
game.
One of two goaltenders on the roster, Harder
was integral to the success attained by the Red
Raiders in 1999-00. A native of Wayzata,
Minnesota, Harder ranked among the nation's and
conference's top goaltenders in winning
percentage, goals-against average and save
percentage. An ECAC all-conference honorable
mention selection, Harder posted a 21-7-2 record
for a .733 winning percentage, the ninth best
percentage in the nation. Yielding only 2.43
goals per game, which ranked No. 16 nationally,
he stopped 91.7 percent of the shots faced, the
10th-best average in Division I.
