MCDONALD SCORES TWO GOALS TO LEAD COLGATE TO 4-2 WIN AGAINST YALE; RED RAIDERS ADVANCE TO LAKE PLACID CLAIMING ECAC QUARTERFINAL SERIES 2-0

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Hobey Baker Memorial Award candidate Andy McDonald scored the game-winning goal and added an empty-net goal to give Colgate a 4-2 win against Yale and claimed the ECAC Quarterfinal series.

With the series win, Colgate advances to the semifinals of the ECAC Championships in Lake Placid Friday, Mar. 17 at 4 p.m. facing No. 3-seed Rensselaer. The Engineers won their ECAC Quarterfinal series 2-0 after a 3-2 overtime victory in game two of the series this evening. The preliminary game will pit No. 4-seed Cornell vs. No. 5-seed Clarkson on Mar. 16 at 7:30 and the winner will face No. 1-seed St. Lawrence on Mar. 17 at 7 p.m.

Darryl Campbell recorded his 17th goal of the season to give Colgate the 1-0 lead with a power-play goal just 2:39 into the first period. Chad MacDonald found Campbell in the slot and he wripped it past Yale's Dan Lombard.

Cory Murphy put Colgate ahead 2-0 at 7:25 of the second period when MacDonald chipped a pass to Murphy in the high slot and he found the net with his 10th marker of the year.

Jeff Brow cut the Colgate lead to 2-1 at 8:43 with his 11th goal of the season and third in the last two games with a power-play goal. Adam Sauve shot from the right point and Nick Deschenes tipped the shot which Colgate's Shep Harder saved, but Brow was on the doorstep hitting in the rebound.

Yale's Cory Shea registered the equalizer at 1:43 in the third, stealing the puck from behind the Colgate net and scored on the wraparound.

McDonald gave Colgate the lead once again at 12:51 when Ben Bryce hit a slapper from the left point that Sean Nolan tipped on goal and then McDonald scored on the rebound. Then at 19:11 McDonald scored the empty-net goal when Kevin Johns won the face-off back to Murphy who hit it off the boards and the puck went down the ice and McDonald tapped it in.

Lombard played 59:04 with 20 saves, while Harder went the distance and recorded 23 saves for his 20th win of the season.
