COLGATE OFFENSE
EXPLODES IN 9-3 DEMOLITION OF UNION

Andy McDonald, Sean Nolan, Darryl Campbell
each scored two goals and added assists to lead
the Colgate University mens ice hockey team
to a 9-3 demolition of Union in ECAC action
Saturday night.
Chad MacDonald opened the scoring
for Colgate 10:12 into the first period on a
power-play marker from Bryan Long and Kevin
Johns. P.J. Yedon added his fourth goal of the
year at the 17:52 mark from Ben Bryce and Brad
DArco to give Colgate a 2-0 lead at the end
of the first period.
After the results of
Fridays game, Colgate secured home ice for
the ECAC playoffs and is still alive in the hunt
for the regular-season championship after Brown
defeated St. Lawrence 6-0 this evening. Colgate
now trails first-place St. Lawrence by one game
in the ECAC standings.
The Red Raiders (19-7-1, 12-4-1
ECAC) continued their offensive onslaught
building a 5-0 lead midway through the second
period on goals by Campbell, Nolan, and McDonald,
respectively.
The nine-goal effort was the
largest offensive output for the Red Raiders
since Jan. 11, 1998 when they defeated Merrimack
10-7.
Union broke into the scoring
column with an unassisted goal by Jeff Sproat at
13:13. However, McDonald scored his second goal
of the game on the power-play 39 seconds into the
third period to make the lead 6-1. McDonald,
currently sixth in the US College Hockey Online
balloting for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award now
has 17 goals on the season and his season point
total stands at 39 (17-22-39).
Etienne Morin, Campbell and Nolan
scored the final three goals for Colgate to
prevail 9-3. Also posting strong evenings for
Colgate were Kevin Johns with three helpers and
Long with two assists.
Colgate was 3-for-9 on the
power-play on the evening, while the Red Raider
penalty-kill stopped Unions four power-play
chances on the night.
Shep Harder stopped 18 shots and
allowed two goals, to record a career-high 16th
overall win this season (16-5-1) and 10th in the
ECAC (10-4-1), while Brandon Snee let in eight
goals and recorded 32 saves in the loss. He drops
to 7-19-1 overall and 5-11-1 in ECAC play. Jason
Lefevre relieved Harder and recorded seven saves
while allowing one goal. Marc Wise came in for
Snee stopping three shots and allowing one goal.
The Red Raiders travel to
Hanover, N.H. to face Dartmouth on Friday, Feb.
25 at 7 p.m., while Union hosts St. Lawrence next
Friday at 7 p.m.
