MORIN , JOHNS AND O'MALLEY EACH RECORD MUMTIPLE-POINT NIGHTS TO LEAD COLGATE TO 5-4 WIN AGAINST RENSSELAER

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Etienne Morin scored a goal and added two helpers, while Kevin Johns and Mike O'Malley each tallied two assists to lead the Colgate University men's ice hockey team to a 5-4 victory against Rensselaer in ECAC action Friday night.

Morin put the Red Raiders on the board with just 49 seconds remaining in the first period with a power-play markers off assists from O'Malley and Johns to lead 1-0 at the first intermission.

Morin set up the next two goals assisting on Bryan Long's second goal of the year on another power-play at 4:10 of the second period and then over two minutes later Morin found Darryl Campbell on the left side of goal to net his 11th goal of the season. This put Colgate ahead 3-0 at the 6:25 mark of the second period.

Rensselaer (17-9-2, 9-6-1 ECAC) cut the lead to 3-2 after two goals in a 1:02 span midway through the second period first on a power-play goal by Brian Pothier on helpers from Marc Covosie and Brad Tapper at 9:58. Pothier's goal came just six seconds into the power-play with a blast from the left point. Keith Dupee put the Engineers within one goal registering his fourth goal of the year from Andrew McPherson and Tapper at the 11:00 mark.

Colgate (18-7-1, 11-4-1 ECAC) rebuilt a secure cushion on Mike Marostega's eighth goal of the season with the slapper from the right point. Sam Sturgis set up the goal taking the face-off and sliding it back to Marostega.

Just under two minutes later Pothier scored his second goal of the game on feeds from Jim Vickers and Dupee to cut the lead to 4-3 at 8:01 in the third.

Leading Colgate scorer and Hobey Baker Memorial Award candidate Andy McDonald (15-21-36) scored his team-leading 15th goal of the season on a feed from Johnsto record the eventual game-winner. Johns who came around from the left side of goal and around the back of the net and found McDonald on the doorstep on the right side of the crease at 9:49 of the third.

The Engineers' Steve Caley scored his fifth goal of the season with an extra skater with just two seconds remaining to end the game 5-4.

Shep Harder stopped 20 shots to record his 15th win overall this season and ninth in the ECAC, while Joel Laing stopped 26 shots and drops to 12-5-2 on the season.

The Red Raiders resume action in Starr Rink on Saturday when they host Union at 7 p.m.
