JOHNS SCORES THE GAME-WINNING GOAL AT 12:44 MARK IN THE THIRD TO GIVE COLGATE A 4-2 WIN AT CLARKSON

Red Raiders record season sweep and win fourth straight game
against the Golden Knights

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Andy McDonald and Sean Nolan helped spark the Colgate University men's hockey team scoring a goal apiece and Kevin Johns netted the game-winning goal to lead the Red Raiders to a 4-2 victory against Clarkson in Eastern College Athletic Conference action Saturday night.

McDonald stole the puck from a Clarkson defenseman behind the net and found Johns on the left side just outside the crease and he hit a no-angle shot to the upper right corner to score the game-winning goal at 12:44 of the third period.

The victory was the Red Raiders fourth straight against Clarkson and is the second consecutive season series sweep. Prior to last season's sweep, Colgate had not swept Clarkson since the 1946-47 season. The Red Raiders also recorded a season series sweep against Cornell this season (W 4-0, W 4-2).

Etienne Morin iced the game with the empty-net goal at 19:36 on the up-ice pass from Darryl Campbell.

McDonald scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season on the power-play at the 3:14 mark of the first period to open up the scoring for Colgate. Mike Marostega was on the left point and slid a pass to Cory Murphy in middle of the ice and who then touched it to Darryl Campbell and he hit a slapshot at Clarkson goaltender Karl Mattson. The shot rebounded right to McDonald on the right side of the goal and he pounded in the rebound to give Colgate a 1-0 lead.

Following a Clarkson power-play goal by Matt Poapst at the 10:28 mark, Sean Nolan gave the Red Raiders a 2-1 lead just over a minute later with his 11th goal of the season. Kevin Johns was down in the left corner and found Dan Stay at the left point who ripped a shot that Nolan deflected into the goal from the slot at 11:32 of the first.

Clarkson evened the score at 2-2 on Chris Bahen's seventh goal of the year at 15:16 of the second on assists from Kevin O'Flaherty and Dave Reid.

Shep Harder stopped 44 shots to record his 14th win overall this season and eighth in the ECAC, while Karl Mattson recorded23 saves in the loss.

The Red Raiders resume action in Starr Rink on Feb. 18-19 hosting Rensselaer on Friday and Union on Saturday with both faceoffs at 7 p.m.
