RECORDS 4-4 TIE AGAINST HARVARD
IN FIRST OT GAME OF THE YEAR
RED RAIDERS UNBEATEN IN
LAST SIX GAMES HEADING INTO SHOWDOWN WITH FIRST
PLACE ST. LAWRENCE NEXT FRIDAY
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
Darryl Campbell and Sean Nolan each recorded a
goal and two assists in Colgate's 4-4 overtime
tie against Harvard in ECAC men's ice hockey
action Saturday night.
The 10th-ranked Red Raiders played in their
first overtime game since Feb. 6 , 1999 when
Colgate tied Yale, coincidentally enough, by a
4-4 score in Starr Rink.
Harvard's Scott Turco put the game into
overtime with his game-tying goal off a feed from
Steve Moore at 10:24 of the third. Colgate
thwarted a late power-play opportunity by Harvard
14:48 of the third to keep the game level at 4-4.
Both teams battled back and forth in the
second and third periods combining for seven
goals in the two periods.
Trailing 3-2, entering the third period
Colgate leading scorer Andy McDonald evened the
score just 41 seconds into the period as Sean
Nolan fed McDonald down the right-side boards and
he carried the puck in and wristed a shot into
the net. Then just over two minutes later Chad
MacDonald slid a pass to Darry Campbell who found
the pipes from the slot to give Colgate a 4-3
lead at 2:57 of the third.
Colgate took its first lead of the game 2-1 at
the 10:14 mark of the second on a pretty play by
Campbell who took a Nolan pass down the left side
of goal and behind the net finding Murphy in the
slot and he wristed a shot past Harvard goalie
J.R. Prestifilippo.
However, just over a minute later Harvard's
Trevor Allman found a streaking Brett Chodorow
who was far ahead of the play and Shep Harder
came out of his net to break up the chance, but
Chodorow was able to avoid Harder and found the
open net to even the score at 2-2.
The Crimson led 3-2 after Mike O'Malley gave
up the puck in Colgate's zone right to Chris Bala
and he scored from the left side of the goal at
15:24 of the second period.
Nolan scored the first Colgate goal to tie the
game at 1-1 as he pounded in the loose puck on a
rebound off Cory Murphy's shot from the left
faceoff dot. Darryl Campbell slid a pass across
the slot to Murphy to get the other helper on the
goal at the 5:42 mark of the second period.
The Red Raiders resume action on Feb. 11 when
they travel to St. Lawrence at 7 p.m. and close
out next weekend at Clarkson on Feb. 12 with
faceoff at 7 p.m.
