COLGATE FALLS TO HARVARD, 8-1 IN CONSOLATION GAME OF BANK ONE BADGER SHOWDOWN

MILWAUKEE –Tyler Kolarik scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Harvard men's hockey team to an 8-1 non-conference win over Colgate Monday night in the consolation game of the Bank One Badger Showdown at the Bradley Center.

With the win Harvard improves to 10-5-1 overall and Colgate falls to 7-10-1.

Harvard got on the board at 9:40 of the first period when Kolarik redirected a Brett Nowak shot high of the boards behind the net. Noah Welch also assisted on the goal.

The Crimson took a 2-0 lead at 1:13 of the second period on Kolarik’s second goal of the game.

Harvard went up 3-0 at 4:55 on a goal when Aaron Kim sent a centering pass to Tom Walsh who put it past Colgate goaltender David Cann.

Dominic Moore extended the Harvard lead to 4-0 at 7:49 on a wraparound goal on Cann’s glove side.

The Crimson closed out the second period with a goal at 19:55 when Tim Pettit fired a shot at the top of the slot that went past Colgate goaltender Steve Silverthorn for a 5-0 lead. Kolarik and Noah Welch assisted on the goal.

Colgate cut the lead to 5-1 on a power play goal by Scooter Smith and assisted by Joey Mormina at 8:45 of the third period.

Harvard then went on to score three unanswered goals by Dan Murphy at 9:37, a power play goal by Rob Flynn at 14:39 and Kenny Smith at 18:41.


Cann played 27:49 and had 11 saves with four goals against. Silverthorn played 32:11 and had 10 saves and four goals against. Harvard goaltender John Daigneau got his first collegiate start and finished with 25 saves.

Colgate continues its road swing next weekend when the Raiders travel to Clarkson and St. Lawrence on Saturday, Jan. 4 and Sunday, Jan. 5. The game at Clarkson will be broadcast on Time Warner Cable.
