COLGATE DEFEATS HOLY CROSS, 5-2 For Immediate Release December 7, 2002 Game Statistics
HAMILTON, N.Y.--Four different players tallied goals
including two by Scooter Smith as the Colgate University men's hockey
team downed the College of the Holy Cross 5-2 Saturday night at Starr
Rink in non-conference action.
The Raiders
improve to 7-7-1 on the year while Holy Cross falls to 8-6 overall.
Smith's slap shot goal at 4:31 in the third period finished off the scoring and gave the Raiders the 5-2 advantage. The Crusaders had pulled within 4-2 when Jeff Dams scored a power play goal after rebounding a Greg Kealey shot at 16:09 in the second period. Zac Tataryn scored his first collegiate goal at 15:05 in the second when the puck squirted out of a scramble in front of the crease onto Tataryn's stick and then into the back of the net, making it a 4-1 contest. Adam Mitchell and Rob Brown were credited with assists on the goal. Just over three minutes earlier, Kyle Wilson netted his own first collegiate goal when he beat Holy Cross goaltender Tony Quesada short-side at 12:56 to give the Raiders a 3-1 lead. Smith scored his first goal of the evening and the first of the Raiders' three second period goals at 3:45 when rebounded a P.J. Yedon shot and lit the lamp to break a 1-1 tie. After Colgate opened up the scoring at 5:06 in the first period on Kyle Doyle's backhanded goal, Dams found a streaking Brandon Doria who beat Colgate goalie David Cann, tying the score at one apiece. Cann finished the night with 27 saves while Quesada stopped 37 shots. |
