MORMINA LIFTS COLGATE TO A 2-1 NON-CONFERENCE WIN OVER NIAGARA Game Statistics HAMILTON, N.Y.--Joey Mormina's goal at 5:10 in the third period gave the Colgate men's ice hockey team a 2-1 win over Niagara Thursday night at Starr Rink in a non-conference contest. Mormina's slapshot from the blueline went straight through the legs of Niagara goaltender Jeff VanNynatten. Adam Mitchell and Darryl McKinnon assisted on the game winner. With the win, the Raiders improve to 6-7-1 on the season while the Eagles fall to 4-11-1. After skating to a scoreless first period, Niagara's Jason Williamson broke the tie when he took a pass from Barrett Ehgoetz and lit the lamp at 1:21 in the second period. Mitchell knotted the score up at 1-1 when he jammed the puck past Niagara goaltender Jeff VanNynatten at 19:19. Matt Nicholson and Kyle Doyle were credited with assists on the goal. Colgate goaltender David Cann kept the Eagles out of the net for the remaining 14 minutes and 50 seconds after Mormina's winner. Cann finished the contest with 27 stops while VanNyatten saved 26 shots.
