COLGATE FALLS TO VERMONT, 3-1

BURLINGTON, VT- Vermont's Shawn Conschafter stopped 28 of 29 Colgate
shots as the Catamounts snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-1
Division I men's ice hockey victory over the Raiders Saturday at UVM's
Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Vermont, 3-5-2 overall and 1-3-0 in the ECAC, took a 1-0 lead at 8:54 of the first period when freshman Spencer Morton scored a power-play goal.

Senior assistant captain Ryan Miller got the puck from defenseman Phil
Youngclaus and fed Morton, who drove down the left side and beat Colgate
goalie David Cann with a nifty backhander. The goal was Morton's first of
the year in only his fourth game.

The Catamounts expanded the lead to 2-0 when Jeff Miles took a pass from
John Longo and scored a short-handed goal at 17:16. The junior, who leads
the league in goals, ripped a snapshot that beat Cann high to the stick
side.

Conschafter was sharp throughout the game, making a terrific stop with
12:25 left in the third period on a short-handed breakaway bid by Colgate's
Brad D'Arco.

Colgate cut into Vermont's lead at 11:58 of the third period on a power-play goal from Kyle Doyle. D'Arco and J.R. Bria assisted on the goal, Doyle's sixth this season. Miles then scored into the empty net, his ninth of the year, to make for the final margin.

The Raiders drop to 4-6-1 overall, 1-3-0 in the ECAC, with the loss. Cann
had 15 saves for the Raiders.
