COLGATE TRAVELS TO OHIO THIS WEEKEND FOR GAMES AT FINDLAY AND OHIO STATE

Scouting the Oilers
Findlay (2-1 overall, 0-0 CHA) is playing its first home game tonight as the Oilers have been on the road for three games at Canisius and Bowling Green.

The Oilers swept the Golden Griffins by scores of 3-1 and 8-1 before falling 4-3 to Bowling Green.

Junior center Nick Udovicic leads the team with one goal and five assists for six points. Sophomore right wing Kris Wiebe and Sean Kotary both have five points as Wiebe has four goals and one assist and Kotary has one goal and four assists.

Senior goaltender Jamie VandeSpyker sports a 2.01 goals against average and a .929 save percentage with six goals against and 79 saves.

The Oilers have scored six power play goals on 17 chances, while allowing three power play goals.

Lending a Helping Hand
Senior forward Brad D’Arco has already tallied five assists in five games this season. Last season, D’Arco recorded 10 assists in 31 games. D’Arco also scored the first power play goal of his career in Saturday night’s 4-3 win over Sacred Heart.

Colgate’s Third Period Hero
Junior Paul Kelley scored both of Colgate’s game winning goals against Sacred Heart last weekend. His game winner Friday night was a shorthanded goal at 14:48 of the third period. Saturday night, he scored the game winner at 16:13 of the third period. He was named to the ECAC Honor Roll for his efforts.

A Night of Firsts
Sophomore goaltender Steve Silverthorn picked up his first collegiate win on Friday night and in the process also picked up his first win at Starr Rink in his first appearance at home. Silverthorn also had a career-high 30 saves in the win.

In addition, junior Paul Kelley scored Colgate’s first shorthanded goal of the season and the first of his career with the game winning goal.

There’s Something About the Number One
Colgate has scored first in every one of its games this season. In addition, four out of five games have been decided by one goal.

Making the Most of the Power Play
After scoring just 20 power play goals last season, Colgate has already scored eight, including three by senior Scooter Smith.

Off to a Fast Start
Senior Scooter Smith has already netted seven points on three goals and four assists. All three of Smith’s goals have been on the power play. Last year at this time, Smith had amassed five points on three goals and two assists with one shorthanded goal. Smith finished the season with 12 goals and six assists for 18 points.
