KELLEY LEADS COLGATE MEN'S HOCKEY PAST SACRED HEART, 4-3 HAMILTON, N.Y.—Junior Paul Kelley’s late third period goal capped a comeback for the Colgate men’s hockey team, who defeated visiting Sacred Heart 4-3 Saturday night at Starr Rink. Kelley
wristed a shot from an improbable angle that found a hole through
Pioneer goaltender Eddy Fehri and gave the Raiders
(2-2-1) a one-goal lead that they would not relinquish.
It was Kelley's second game-winning goal in as many nights. Sacred Heart’s (0-2-2) Chuck Metcalfe had seemed to place momentum in his team’s corner when he redirected a Garrett Larson pass through Raider goalie Steve Silverthorn’s legs for a shorthanded goal, giving the Pioneers a 3-2 lead. Colgate defenseman Rob Brown and Kelley scored within two minutes of each other, however, and gave the Raiders their second straight win on the season and at Starr Rink. Raider assistant captain Brad D’Arco tallied the lone first period goal on the power play, extending Colgate’s streak of scoring the opening goal to five games. Martin Paquet scored twice for the Pioneers and received the third star of the game in the losing effort. Colgate senior Scooter Smith had a goal and an assist as well. Sacred Heart will begin league play next week against Canisius, while Colgate travels to face non-conference foe Findlay State. |
