COLGATE MEN'S HOCKEY FALLS TO UCONN 5-4 IN OT

HAMILTON, N.Y. -
Last minute heroics gave the Connecticut men's hockey team its first victory of the year as Ron D’Angelo scored with 1:22 seconds left in overtime, defeating the Colgate Raiders 5-4 Saturday night at Starr Rink.

It was the effort of center Tim Olsen that forced a deciding extra frame. Down 4-3 with under two minutes remaining in the third, Olsen found himself all alone in the right circle, and fired a puck that trickled past Cann and the goal line. It was his first goal of the season, and would lead to the Raiders third straight one-goal loss.

Colgate appeared to control the game after falling behind early. Down 3-2, Raider Dmitry Yashin scored a wrap-around power play goal to draw even with the Huskies. Scooter Smith followed five minutes later with a power play goal of his own, giving his team a brief lead.

The lead would not stand, however, as the Raiders failed to score again. UConn goalie Jason Carey made 39 saves to earn the eventual win.

The Huskies built an early lead with power play goals from Eric Nelson and Kurt Kamienski. UConn finished 3-5 with the extra attacker.

Kyle Doyle scored the games first goal, marking the third time this season the Raiders have dented the net first.

Cann finished with 18 saves.
